Below is a poster I designed to show the process of designing the toy

Project Brief:
Create a toy for a child ages 12+ that utilizes a pulling motion
Year: 2022
Class: Intro Industrial Design 1
Concept:
The “Fluttering Flyer” is a toy plane designed for children from 12 months+. The plane consists of three basic colors. White plastic makes up most of the body, blue plastic is used along the bottom of the plane, and an orange plastic is used on the fin. The orange is used to act as a cue. This cue incentivizes the child to grab and pull the fin of the plane. When the fin is pulled it spins a dowel inside the body of the jet causing a small propeller to quickly spin, fluttering red streamers out the back of the jet. The red streamers imitate flames firing out the back of a jet. The pulling motion required to initiate the mechanism is what would classify this toy as a “pull toy”. The classic fisher price pull toy is a object with wheels and a string that is designed to be pulled around by a child. The “Fluttering Flyer” takes a different approach to this concept. Many children, especially closer to 12 months, are not able to walk very well, this heavily influenced the decision to create the pulling fin mechanism. The “Fluttering Flyer” does not require a child to walk or run, it can be used while sitting at the dinner table, running around the house, riding in the car, or just sitting at home.
